Who was Gilat Eisenmann

Gilat Foundation was established in memory of Gilat Eisenmann, who died in 2008 at the age of 11. Gilat was seriously ill and had to spend much of her life in the hospital. At Emma Children’s Hospital (UMC Amsterdam, location AMC), everyone knew her. When she walked down the hallway everyone would wave. Gilat was an always positive child. Creative and focused on the beautiful things that were there.

The name Gilat means joy and that is exactly what we as a foundation bring within the walls of the hospital.

After a nasty examination, Gilat could greatly look forward to visiting the petting zoo at the hospital. When you are a child who is seriously ill, it is important to be able to look forward to something, to be distracted for a while and experience that there is something other than your illness and the treatments.

Losing a child is the worst thing that can happen to you as a parent. The only thing worse is when your child is forgotten. Gilat lived to be eleven years old. With our foundation, we keep her memory alive and support children who are struggling now.
